1.                   Principal’s update
Recruitment of new teachers
The school has received 100 applications for one position, and will make a final decision soon.
There are also openings for 2 to 3 positions to teach Norwegian, and part-time positions to teach drama and PE.
Timetables for the 2018-2019 school year
RB aims to make the timetable available as soon as possible, so families can plan their holidays. The plan has been available on the school website for the last two months. The school is still awaiting feedback on availability of the gym and auditorium.

Miscellaneous
The school will hopefully be MYP authorized by August 2018.
There are currently 258 students in the school, all available places for grade 1 have been filled, and 47 students are on the waiting list for grade 1. In all, 17 students will be leaving the school at the end of the year.
Student teachers from Høgskolen Sørøst Norge will soon do their practice period at AIS.

2.                  Road crossing safety

ALK is working on a process, in collaboration with Risenga and Landøya, to force a reduction of the speed limit to 40 km/h on the main road, and hopefully install some blinking lights at busy hours too. She is also trying to influence the planning of where the buses with Risenga kids should stop to drop them off next year. We much prefer the buses to drop off children on the main road, instead of trying to drive up the slippery slope to the school building. Landøya skole supports us in our efforts to improve safety, and ALK has scheduled a meeting at Risenga skole next week. Hopefully we will be heard and the situation improved by next winter.

3.                  A new setup for PC organized events in 2018-2019

4.           “Intoscience” as supplement to Reading Eggs and Mathletics
ALK discussed the issue with RB, who will consider it and give feedback by next meeting.

5.           Update on the recently arranged Student Ball
The arrangement was a success. 59 students bought tickets, and feedback has been positive. Many parents helped, as did the Student Council. Highlights of the Ball were the chocolate fountain and guest DJs.
The arranging committee will write up a report and post it to the PC’s Dropbox account, as resource for next year’s Student Ball committee.

6.           Disco night
Ticket sales have been good, and many parents will help. The theme of the party, “Spaced Out” has received very positive response, and several students will wear space-themed costumed.

7.           Budget for the 17 May event
There was a zero budget last year, but the PC cashier can look into a small budget. Previous arranging committees have relied on donations. The school can lend cutlery, and there are food, drink, and decoration leftovers from the staffroom and previous years’ parties.

The 17 May committee had a survey, and around 150 children have replied that they will come.

Next meeting: Monday 7 May 2018, 15:40 hrs.

Test walk from Asker train station to the new AIS building and back - with a 9 year old

Dear parents and caregivers,  Google maps suggests that it takes19 minutes to talk from Asker station to the school. That seemed like a lot...
