Principal’s Statement
Principal R. Browne and Mr Mark were
present to update on the following:
AIS
campus: Continuous talks as mentioned in earlier
minutes with the regional and kommune authorities.
AIS End-of-year
activities: The last weeks had been busy with preparing
the school budgets (as mentioned in last minutes), reports and winter
concerts/celebrations, including preparing the kids for the winter concerts.
AIS Newletter: Mr Mark introduced the newsletters already sent out and more to
come intended to bring the parent community up to speed with developments in
the school and students, that go beyond just academics (e.g. service/action for
MYP as part of the IB programme, new club initiatives in the pipeline etc). The
newsletter is published regularly.
1st
Graduation ceremony: This academic year is the
first graduation year and it is planned to be organized as a formal ceremony
for the graduating class. The mayor has been invited to participate this year
and it will be evaluated how it will continue for the following years. Grade 10
parents would be invited to a meeting with further information around this.
Student
Transition to Norwegian high schools: This was a
concern that was raised by the PC on how well students will be prepared to make
the transition. The school clarified that the school is doing everything possible
to ensure that this will be fine. They have incorporated enough Norwegian language
in the Grade 10 curriculum with a subject taught in Norwegian (allowed by the
IB programme). In addition, the parent community was cautioned and reminded that
while the school gives the best preparation of the student to transition, it
was still an English school and parents should take more initiatives to supplement
the language requirements that might be need in local schools, where necessary.
SFO
in August: Some parents were interested in having
an offer of SFO for all of August and the school promised to check and come
back with feedback on how that will work on campus in addition to planned
constructions during that period, if any. The kommune will also be contacted
for alternatives if there is enough interest.
Vaccinations
and other health concerns: Parents are advised to
contact the school nurse directly (contact information on website) if there are
any concerns or about schedules. Scheduled vaccinations for Grade 2 will take
place in February (information received after the meeting).
The school representatives took their leave
and the PC meeting proceeded.
Approval of last minutes
The minutes from the last meeting were approved
and adopted.
Meeting chair
The meeting was chaired by the PC Chair.
Budget and financial situation
There were no updates as the Treasurer was
absent but will be presented in next meeting. Details of the financial
situation are readily available from the Treasurer who will give an update at
the monthly meetings.
2018/2019 Activities/ New business
·
Bakesale vs Hotdog: There was a
suggestion from some parents to do baking instead of hotdog sales. After discussions,
it was concluded that due to food allergies that are higher in baked items, it
would be easier to go with hotdog sales. Volunteers are still needed.
·
Music classes: Some parents also showed
interest in having music as a subject in AIS. The school is working to
incorporate that, and we will be updated as more information becomes available.
·
Grade 9 Ski Day: The Grade 9 Rep
informed that they have scheduled a ski day for the class, a tradition that is
seen throughout Norwegian schools.
·
Ski course: Due to the lack of
volunteers for the ski course organized by the Skiforeningen, there was a
suggestion for that to be incorporated in to PE lessons if possible. The PC
chair was going to take that up with the school.
·
Winter concert: The committee in charge
of the organization were at work in planning and everything was on track.
