Principal’s Statement
Puberty
Talk at AIS: Principal R. Browne announced that the
school had received a complaint from the parents in grade 6 regarding the inappropriateness
of the puberty talk media that was used in the class. He clarified that the
school had looked into the complaint and understood the parents’ standpoint.
The following resolutions were therefore arrived at to prevent a similar
reaction in the future:
-
The school will have to see and
approve all media that will be used to introduce puberty in AIS
-
The school will propose
alternative media where possible, if necessary
-
Parents with children in the
grades concerned would be informed ahead of time before the lessons in order to
allow for a discussion at home too if necessary, that could also help to
prepare the students.
Mr. Robert also added that the
above-mentioned media is approved for Norwegian schools and therefore AIS had
not found the need to strictly check and approve such media.
Parent
membership in the school board: The principal
announced that the school board had decided to extend membership to the parent
community. They are looking for 2 candidates with a deputy who will be expected
to start in their roles in the next school year. More information about the
description of the positions and how to apply will be communicated as soon as
it becomes available.
